GEM’s mission is to empower high school girls from underserved communities by providing opportunities and growth experiences that will enable them to become independent, self-sufficient, and confident young women. Girls that are nominated to GEM meet after school and participate in activities, speakers and field trips related to the organization’s curriculum, including overnight weekend retreats. These events provide girls with exposure to areas of Maryland and surrounding areas, a chance to focus on themselves, a safe, supportive and nurturing environment, college visits, service to others, and more. GEM commits ten years to its girls, starting in the ninth grade and lasting through college and into the world of work.
“I’m extremely honored and proud to serve on GEM’s board,” said Ziegler. “It is so important to help girls become self-actualized individuals and to offer our resources in support of their education and ambitions. I look forward to helping this wonderful organization continue to play an active and lasting role in these girls’ lives.”
