NHOA 2025 Small Business Summit

In April, Nemphos Braue was in Honolulu, Hawaii, for the Native Hawaiian Organizations Association annual Small Business Summit. With clients and partners active in the association, it was a valuable opportunity to spend time face-fo-face, further relationships and make new connections. Given the evolving landscape for many government contracting businesses – especially those in the SBA 8(a) program –  attorneys George Nemphos and Lauren Ziegler participated in multiple informative panels, sharing information regarding mergers and acquisitions, subcontracting, teaming and joint ventures (JVs).

A couple key takeaways:

From our Mai Tai Teaming panel with McCarter & English: Before you pour, it’s important to make sure you have the right ingredients. In legal terms, that means proper due diligence in essential. Before subcontracting, teaming or forming a joint venture (JV), ensure documents, IP and corporate structure can withstand a thorough review.

M&A may provide new opportunities. From our M&A panel with The Nakupuna Companies, Bowen, Inc. and BDO: In the evolving government contracting marketplace, strategic acquisitions may prove lucrative in winning contracts, while your small business may be attractive for potential buyers. The Nemphos Braue team can assist in reviewing LOIs, NDAs and more.

Members of our team also participated in the conference’s inaugural golf tournament, complete with views of Pearl Harbor.

Nemphos Braue wishes a true “Mahalo” to our clients and partners and the entire team at NHOA for an important conference highlighting unique challenges facing small businesses, especially Native Hawaiian Organizations (NHOs) and Alaska Native Corporations (ANCs) that work diligently on government contracts.
