George J. Nemphos is a founding member of Nemphos Braue Law representing entrepreneurs, start-ups, emerging and mature companies, as well as independent sponsors, venture capital and private equity funds. George has extensive experience in representing and assisting clients in entity choice and formation, mergers and acquisitions, private placements of debt and equity, complex joint ventures, structural and day-to-day issues, as well as corporate governance and securities law compliance.

George is known for his practical and business-oriented solutions to legal issues. Prior to Nemphos Braue, George was the global chair of a corporate practice group for an AmLaw 100 international law firm, traveling throughout the United States, Asia and Europe. Having spent a majority of his career with big international law firms, and now as an entrepreneur himself, George brings a unique perspective to client issues and works closely with firm clients to achieve practical, business-oriented solutions. He frequently advises clients in the manufacturing, consumer products, restaurant, automotive, retail and wholesale, agriculture and aquaculture, industrial services, technology, government contracting, health and wellness and insurance industries, as well as companies in the capital markets, life sciences and cyber security space.

Recognized by Best Lawyers® for 2025, George was also named to the national Lawyers of Distinction List for 2022 and 2023 and the list of “Who’s Who in Law” for 2021 by the Baltimore Business Journal. George won the Daily Record’s Leaders in Law “Dealmakers” award in 2022. He was a winner of SmartCEO’s 2015 Baltimore Power Players Award, and for five consecutive years, 2011-2015, George was previously recognized in Best Lawyers in America as one of the area’s Best Lawyers in Leveraged Buyouts and Private Equity. In 2013 he was named Best Lawyers’ “Lawyer of the Year, Leveraged Buyouts and Private Equity Law” in Baltimore.

In 2008 Institutional Investor News named George as one of the “10 Rising Stars of Private Equity and M&A Law.” In 2006, George completed the GBC Leadership program, a program that hand-picks Baltimore-area leaders from business, nonprofits and the government to become strategists for the future of the region. Additionally, George was named one of the “40 Under 40” business leaders in Baltimore by the Baltimore Business Journal in 2001.

Admitted to practice in Maryland, George holds a LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center and received his Juris doctorate, magna cum laude, from the University of Baltimore School of Law. George also received his bachelor of science degree from Boston University.
