A U.S. Registered Patent Attorney with more than 20 years of experience, Michael Antone serves as Counsel at Nemphos Braue, where he helps clients protect their most valuable intellectual property assets using patents (inventions), copyrights (creative works), trademarks (brands) and trade secrets (know-how and customer information).

Versed in a wide variety of business and corporate law matters, Michael Antone has an extensive background working in large law firm, corporate, and venture capital environments, and running a law practice. He has worked with clients in a variety of industries ranging from communications equipment to software to online retailing. He is also a Professional Engineer, licensed in Pennsylvania.

Michael also brings perspective as a private equity investor with C-Suite leadership experience. He was previously a partner at Grande Ventures, LLC, a private venture capital fund that invested in various hardware and software technologies including automation and controls, parallel and virtual computing software, radar, combustion technology, mobile phone technology and optical communications. He served as a board member for several of the portfolio companies and as CEO for the automation and controls company during a management transition.

As Chief Intellectual Property Counsel with Corvis Corporation, a venture-funded telecom equipment start-up that went public and was later acquired by Level 3 Communications (LVLT), Michael managed all aspects of intellectual property for the company including patent preparation and prosecution, patent litigation, licensing, transactions, opinions and was part of the executive team. During his time at Corvis, he was also promoted to Senior Vice President of Research & Development and Manufacturing, in addition to his role as Chief Intellectual Property Counsel.

Michael was a patent attorney with the law firm of Kirkpatrick & Lockhart (now K&L Gates), where his practice focused on patent and trademark preparation and prosecution, opinions, transactions and litigation support, working in areas such as software, metallurgy, material science, semiconductor manufacturing, optics, optical communications, medical devices and mechanical systems.

Leveraging his engineering degree, Michael was a senior engineer at Westinghouse Electric Corporation, where he developed mathematical models and software to perform power system thermal hydraulic and material performance analysis and predictive modeling. He and his colleagues received the Westinghouse Signature of Excellence award for this work, which resulted in the savings of millions of dollars each year in operational downtime.

Michael has a J.D. degree from Duquesne University and a M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

He is admitted to practice in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Pennsylvania, and in the U.S. Western and Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
