A U.S. Registered Patent Attorney with more than 20 years of experience, Michael C. Antone serves as Counsel at Nemphos Braue, where he helps clients protect their intellectual property assets. Versed in a wide variety of business and corporate law matters, Michael has an extensive background working in large law firm, corporate, and venture capital environments, and running a law practice. He has worked with clients in a variety of industries ranging from communications equipment to software to online retailing. He is also a Professional Engineer, licensed in Pennsylvania. Michael also brings perspective as a private equity investor with C-Suite leadership experience. He was previously a partner at Grande Ventures, LLC, a private venture capital fund that invested in various hardware and software technologies including automation and controls, parallel and virtual computing software, radar, combustion technology, mobile phone technology and optical communications. He served as a board member for several of the portfolio companies and as CEO for the automation and controls company during a management transition.
As Chief Intellectual Property Counsel for a venture-funded telecom startup that went public and was later acquired, Michael managed all aspects of intellectual property including patent preparation, prosecution and litigation, licensing, transactions, opinions and was part of the executive team.
Michael was previously a patent attorney with an AmLaw 50 law firm, working in areas such as software, metallurgy, material science, semiconductor manufacturing, optics, optical communications, medical devices and mechanical systems. He was also a senior engineer at Westinghouse Electric Corporation, where he developed mathematical models and software to perform power system thermal hydraulic and material performance analysis and predictive modeling. He and his colleagues received the Westinghouse Signature of Excellence award for this work, which resulted in the savings of millions of dollars each year in operational downtime.
Michael has a J.D. degree from Duquesne University and a M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
He is admitted to practice in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Pennsylvania, and in the U.S. Western and Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Michael is not admitted in Maryland or other jurisdictions.
